Border Patrol
|
 |
 |
|
U.S. Marshals are the nation’s
primary fugitive hunting organization and capture more federal fugitives
each year than all other national law enforcement agencies combined. |
Customs Border Patrol
is one of the Department of Homeland
Security’s largest and most complex components, with a priority mission of
keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. It also has a
responsibility for securing and facilitating trade and travel while
enforcing hundreds of U.S. regulations, including immigration and drug
laws. |

People depend on police officers and detectives to protect
their lives and property. Law enforcement officers, some of whom are State
or Federal special agents or inspectors, perform these duties in a variety
of ways depending on the size and type of their organization. In most
jurisdictions, they are expected to exercise authority when necessary,
whether on or off duty. |
Correctional officers, also known as detention officers,
are responsible for overseeing individuals who have been arrested and are
awaiting trial or who have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to
serve time in a jail, reformatory, or penitentiary.

Every year, fires and other emergencies take thousands of
lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Fire fighters help
protect the public against these dangers by responding to fires and a
variety of other emergencies. In addition to putting out fires, they are
frequently the first emergency personnel at the scene of a traffic
accident or medical emergency and may be called upon to treat injuries or
perform other vital functions. |
Sheriff
|
EMT
|
 |
 |
|
A sheriff is generally (but not always) the highest,
usually elected, law enforcement officer of a county and commander of
militia in that county |
People’s lives often depend on the quick reaction and
competent care of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics.
Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, heart attacks, slips and
falls, childbirth, and gunshot wounds all require immediate medical
attention. EMTs and paramedics provide this vital service as they care for
and transport the sick or injured to a medical facility. |

SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) is an
elite unit in many American police departments, which is trained to
perform exceptionally dangerous, high-risk, counter-terrorism operations
that fall outside of the abilities of patrol officers. These can include
serving high-risk arrest warrants, performing hostage rescue and/or armed
intervention, preventing terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism, and
engaging heavily-armed criminals. |
